How does Nootropil work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?
Nootropil is nootropic drug, cyclic derivative of gamma-aminobutyric
acid (GABA). Nootropil directly act on central nervous system, improving
the cognitive (cognitive) processes such as learning ability, memory,
attention, and mental efficiency Nootropil influence central nervous
system in different ways: it modifies the speed of neurotransmission in
the brain, improves metabolic processes in nerve cells, improves
microcirculation by acting on the blood rheological properties.
Piracetam inhibits platelet aggregation and restores the
elasticity of red blood cells membrane, reduces adhesion of
erythrocytes.
Which conditions are treated with Nootropil ?
- Symptomatic treatment psychoorganic syndrome, particularly in elderly patients with memory problems, dizziness, reduced concentration and total activity, changes in mood and behavior disorders, gait disorders, patients with Alzheimer's disease and senile dementia of Alzheimer's type;
- Treating of ischemic stroke consequences such as speech disturbances, disorder of the emotional sphere
- Alcoholism - for the treatment psychoorganic and withdrawal syndromes;
- Comatose state (and in the recovery period), including after injury and intoxication of the brain;
- Treatment of vertigo of vascular origin;
- Treatment of children with with psychoorganic syndrome;
- Treatment of cortical myoclonia as mono-or combined therapy;
- Sickle-cell anemia (in the complex therapy).
What should a patient know before using Nootropil ?
The Nootropil should not be used in cases of:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Acute heart attacks and strokes (hemorrhagic stroke)
- Terminal stage of renal insufficiency (creatinine clearance less than 20ml/min)
- Children under 1 year of age
- Severe liver diseases
Which adverse effects may manifest when using the medication?
The side effects of Nootropil include:
- Central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: hyperkinesia, nervousness, sleepiness, depression, dizziness, headaches, ataxia, imbalance, epilepsy, insomnia, confusion, excitement, anxiety, hallucinations, increased sexuality.
- Metabolism: weight gain
- Digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
- Dermatological reactions: in rare cases - dermatitis, itching, skin rash, edema.
- Other: asthenia.
In most cases it is possible to achieve regression of these symptoms, reducing the dose of the drug.
It is not necessary that the side effects will manifest in an

Which groups of drugs or specific preparations may interact with Nootropil?
- Nootropil may change the effects of blood thinners (warfarin)
- Nootropil in combination with thyroid hormones may cause sleeping disorders, confusion and irritability.
Important information for the patient: Nootropil is
supplied for individual use. Do not use it to treat other conditions not
listed in the leaflet. Keep the product out of children reach. Do not
reuse any disposable materials if supplied with the preparation.
